MRE Update
November 18, 2019
A message from the Principal, Mr. O'Shea
Dear Parents
As we move into the month of December, there are numerous holidays and opportunities for celebrations. It is understood how exciting this can be for elementary aged students who celebrate the December holidays. This excitement can unintentionally take the focus off of learning.
With 20 days of learning between now and the December break, that is about 10% of the school year. To keep the focus on the learning that needs to be completed during this time, we are asking that students do not wear or bring in hats, costumes, jewelry, headbands, or any other accessory that can be excessively distracting to the learning environment. It is not expected that students wear baseball hats during class so it will be expected that students not wear “elf” or reindeers, etc hats. Another specific example is any jingle bell accessories that can be noisy and distracting.
This does not mean that classrooms will not do winter or fun activities. The teachers will take a thoughtful and deliberate approach to planning their winter activities in a way that is least disruptive to student/overall learning.

Donate your shoes!
Hi MRE and LBMS families and friends,
I am so grateful to announce that I have been chosen as a member of Team Joslin Diabetes Center as a runner for the 2020 Boston Marathon! As a school nurse who works closely with students and families living with diabetes, this organization is very important to me. As one of my fundraisers, I am collecting gently used shoes and sneakers of all kinds. The organization I am working with will pay Team Joslin $0.40 per pound of gently used footwear which will then be repurposed. If you are cleaning, organizing and de-cluttering for the holidays, and getting ready to donate some shoes, please keep me in mind! There will be a bin for collection of sneakers/ shoes/ boots in the lobby of MRE and LBMS. Thank you in advance for any shoe donations!
Wishing you all a healthy and happy holiday season!
